Technical Details You Should Know

Student Access

All students of TCM Review Seminars courses receive an account with access to the course(s) they’re enrolled in. Once logged in to the Student Portal, students will have access to the Virtual Classroom and other resources like course documents, announcements, and resources like the quiz website and flashcards. The TCM Review Seminar website is built on the powerful WordPress content management system.

The entire website can be viewed across all popular devices, including smart phones and tablets. The ability to view the live events and recordings will depend on the capacity of the device being used.

LIVE Webinars

adobeTCM Review Seminars uses the state of the art Adobe Connect video conferencing software for all Live Webinar classes. The software displays multiple windows during the live event, allowing for viewers to see the teacher, a blackboard space for worksheets and notes, and a chat field window to allow for real time interaction between teachers and students. The Live Webinars using the Adobe connect software can only be streamed on a computer. Due to the bandwidth needed and the technology Adobe uses, hand held devices and tablets will not stream the Live Webinars.

Afirefox_logo2.jpgdobe requires the Firefox internet browser, a free download from Mozilla. Apple Safari can be used, but sometimes with viewing issues. Google Chrome and Microsoft Internet Explorer are not supported with the Adobe platform. The first time students watch the Live Webinar classes, the Adobe software will prompt students to follow a simple instructions for “plugin” installation – a small piece of free software that is automatically installed in your internet browser. The process is simple and painless!

In the rare event that technical difficulties occur during a live event, both TCM Review Seminars and Adobe have technical support folks on hand to help with any issues that might arise.

RECORDED Webinars

Following the Live classes (usually on Sundays), all recordings are made available by the following Tuesday at 10am in the Virtual Classroom of the TCM Review Seminars website. These recordings are available for students who are:

  • enrolled in the Recorded Webinar NCCAOM Review Course; or
  • enrolled in the Live Webinar NCCAOM Review Course but who missed a class (up to 3 allowed)

vimeoFor the recorded classes, we use Vimeo, a powerful video streaming platform, and serve the videos directly to the class pages of the Virtual Classroom of the TCM Review Seminar website. Vimeo videos work seamlessly across all popular devices automatically, including smart phones and tablets. All internet browsers are supported on Vimeo.

Note: the recording only allows traditional video capabilities (play, pause, rewind, forward). It does not allow the functions and capabilities of the Adobe Connect software used in the Live Webinars (chat features, blackboard cut and paste function, microphone features, etc.).

Internet Connection

In order to participate in the Live Webinar classes or watch the Recorded Webinars, students should consider their internet speed. Most modern computers can stream videos and live events with no problem. Issues usually arise with internet speed. Here’s what you’ll need:

  • Live Webinars – at least 3-4 mbps download speed
  • Recorded Webinars – at least 2-3 mbps download speed

Please check with your internet service provider (Comcast, Verizon, etc.) or run a test at speedtest.net to determine this.

If you stream high quality videos on Netflix or iTunes, you should have no problem participating in the Live or Recorded Webinars. Watching a YouTube video with no problem is not a good indicator of whether you will be able to stream the Live or Recorded Webinars without interruption – their content is usually of much lower quality.
