Pan Canadian Week 1: Foundations
In this class, there are three videos which review the basic theory of TCM. We start off with Yin Yang theory and Five Element Theory. From there, we look at how Qi, Blood, and Body Fluids are produced and used. There is an overview of the 5 aspects of spirit and causes of disease. The last two videos go over the functions of the Zang and Fu organs. This class sets up how the body functions without the presence of disease – TCM Physiology.
Pan Canadian Week 2: Diagnosis I
Diagnosis I is a deep dive into 4 Pillars. The 4 Pillars (observation, hearing and smelling, interrogation and palpation) are the basic building blocks of TCM diagnosis. Also called the 4 examinations, each pillar provides valuable information that adds up to a patient diagnosis. For students coming from Element school or Classical Medicine school, this class will lay down the foundations for Zang Fu pattern diagnosis.
Pan Canadian Week 3: Tongue and Pulse
Tongue and pulse are very important diagnostic systems. They appear on exams in two different forms. The first way is in short answer memorization-type questions based on the pulse names, pulse qualities and pulse indications as they appear in the textbooks. The second way is how tongue and pulse appear in different Zang Fu patterns, Shan Han Lun patterns and other presentations across different TCM Diagnostic Theories. This form is good to know for case studies. This class covers both types of test questions and how to prepare for each one.
Pan Canadian Week 4: Zang Fu Patterns
Clear comprehension of Zang Fu pattern differentiation is an essential part of the information needed to pass your exams. We examine and identify the symptoms, making diagnosis options clear and simple.
Pan Canadian Week 5: Case Study Analysis
This class explores memorization strategies, teaching you how to gain command of the vast amount of information needed to pass your exam. The second part of this class teaches students how to logically take a multiple choice exam, focusing on methods to eliminate the tendency to guess an answer. This class finishes with the TCM Review Seminars method for the dissection and critical thinking about cases.
Pan Canadian Week 6: Treatment Principles
Treatment principles are an important but often under-emphasized subject in schools. For your board exams, you want to know them well. The progression in treatment is that to collect information on signs and symptoms from a case study, pull those together into a clear diagnosis and then come up with a treatment principle for the case. If the diagnosis is off, the treatment principle will be wrong. It is essential that you have the symptoms for the Zang Fu patterns down before you work through this class. The first video in this class covers Root (Ben) and Branch (Biao) treatments as well as rules for treating Zheng Qi (Upright Qi) and Xie Qi (Evil Qi). These two are similar in approach and students tend to mix them up. It’s important that you are clear with your understanding of these two concepts as well as understanding the treatment rules that apply to each. Videos 2 and 3 cover the treatment principles themselves. Video 4 applies the knowledge that you have learned thus far to case study questions.
Pan Canadian Week 7: TCM Diagnostic Theories
In this class, Bina covers the Theory of Disease according to the Channels. Think of these as their own individual patterns with symptoms that manifest when the channel is diseased. Which channel? This can be the Primary Channels, the Luo (Cutaneous) Channels, the 8 Extraordinary Channels or the Muscle Meridian Channels. When you’ve watched this video and studied the material, take the quizzes on channel pathologies on the quiz site.
Pan Canadian Week 8: Single Points Functions and Acupuncture Case Studies
This class is a deep dive into single points, empirical points and point combinations. This information is gleaned from several different texts and is a concise system you can count on to get you through any acupuncture case study question. The last two videos in this series cover how to select points for case studies and how to approach acupuncture case studies. This series has a lot of information in it. Be patient with yourself as it will take time to master this system.
Pan Canadian Week 9: Maciocia Point Rx
Did you know that Maciocia point prescriptions are built like herbal formulas? This 3-hour class takes you through the essential MAC point prescriptions and explains why each point is included in the prescription. Additionally, diagnosis, herbs and biomedicine correlations are discussed to clarify point prescriptions where applicable.
Pan Canadian Week 10: Channel Theory
This week goes through channel theory. We look at each of the different types of channels in the body. From the most superficial, cutaneous channels to the deepest, divergent channels. There are also classes on crossing points, contraindicated and cautioned points from both Deadman and the Safety Manual, big picture categories along with a tutorial created by our teacher Laura Drago to quickly and easily learn the Big Picture for tests. Last of all we go over the Extra points.
Pan Canadian Week 11: Acupuncture Adjunct Therapies
This class covers all acupuncture modalities that you need to know for your exam. The following modalities are reviewed: Needling techniques, Angles and Depths, Tonification and Sedation, Acupuncture Contraindations and Cautions, Three Edge Needles, Cutaneous Needles, Intradermal Needles, Moxa, Cupping, Electroacupuncture, Gua Sha, Injection Therapy, Scalp Acupuncture, Ear Acupuncture, Nine Needles, Mother and Child Points, Korean 4 Needle Acupuncture.
Pan Canadian Week 12: Biomedicine Safety Manual
In this class, we cover the Safety Program Handbook which is a very important part of the Pan Canadian exam. In this course, we will cover infection prevention and control, risk management of TCM Practice, safe procedures and processes for performing acupuncture and we will touch on safe procedures and processes covering Herbology.
Pan Canadian Week 13: Biomedicine II
This class expands the principles of biomedicine, reviewing key signs, symptoms and tests for common biomedical western diseases. In completion, the uses of pharmacology and orthopedic testing are discussed as well.
Pan Canadian Week 14: Medical Red Flags
This one hour class will give you the necessary information about important Medical Red Flags that all acupuncturists should be aware of for board exams and clinical practice. Please be aware that this book was written for the USA audience. It is on the Pan Canadian book list and is used. What is important is knowing the signs and symptoms that would warrant a referral. These are universal and not based on country. Where referral to a specialist is mentioned, change this to a referral to your patient’s physician.
Pan Canadian Week 15: Pharmacology
Understanding pharmacology is important for your exam and for clinic. Many patients are on at least one if not a cocktail of western drugs to help manage their conditions. It is essential that you understand the different drug classes, how they effect the body and any side effects that they might cause. This class starts out slow with an overview of the study of pharmacology. It introduces important terminology that will help you as we delve further into pharmacology and look at the major drug classes and popular medications in each class.
Pan Canadian Week 16: Pathogenesis
Pathogenesis is a subject that is not often taught in schools. It is an essential part of the preparation for the Clinical Case Studies exam. Pathogenesis explains how disease manifests in the body. We look at causes of disease and then the specific pathways as disease evolves from one Zang Fu pattern to the next.
Pan Canadian Week 17: TCM Diseases I: Internal Medicine
This class starts our review of the 165 diseases which are critical to know for the Clinical Case Studies exam. This class covers all the Internal Medicine diseases. Pan Canadian Week 23: Case Studies I
In this class, we start to really pull together all the information you have learned. Clinical Case Studies I goes through case studies as they will be presented on the Clinical Case Studies exam. It’s important that you work through the case studies on your own FIRST before watching the videos. I give the answers to the case studies in the videos.

Thank you to Bina and her team for an extremely helpful and informative review course! I passed my Pan-Canadian multiple-choice theory component as well as the case study component!
This course prepared me tremendously and boosted my confidence greatly. Bina’s textbooks, extra course resources, class videos, and tutorials deepened my knowledge of TCM. I thoroughly enjoyed having practice quizzes, tests, and mock examinations to utilize with feedback given immediately. Thank you so much again for all of your help, I could not have done it without TCM Review!
